Document Supply

Welcome to ScHARR Library's Document Supply Service for ScHARR staff, Masters and PhD students.

If there is a journal article or book which you cannot find on StarPlus we may be able to obtain it for you.  You will need to complete a request form for each item.

Forms can be downloaded from the Document Supply box on the right-hand side of this page. Please ensure that you save the correct version of the form for your own records:

  • File 1 - use this to request a journal article
  • File 2 - use this to request a book or other printed item
  • Files 3 and 4 - for those who use Reference Manager.  Please ensure that you save both files into the same folder.  File 4 is for Reference Manager mail merge.

There are several ways you can submit your request forms:

In person: The Information Service @ ScHARR Library, ScHARR, First Floor, Regent Court, 30 Regent Street, Sheffield, S1 4DA

By email: scharrlib@sheffield.ac.uk

By post: ScHARR Library, Information Resources Group, HEDS, ScHARR, University of Sheffield, Regent Court, 30 Regent Street, Sheffield S1 4DA

Guidelines for filling your request form in:

Before making a request:

  • Please ensure that the article you require is not freely available online.
  • Check whether you can download the article from the University’s electronic journals collection via StarPlus
  • If you don't have a copy of the request form on your computer, you can email scharrlib@sheffield.ac.uk and we will send it to you.
  • Please try to type your requests or use block capitals as ilegible handwriting can slow down the search process.
  • Please avoid using abbreviations where possible.  We accept that there are occasions where you will not be able to provide us with a complete reference, but abbreviating journal titles can also slow down the request process.

ScHARR MSc students are entitled to 14 requests per academic year.

Guidelines for ScHARR Staff

• Any copying which supports activities that are directly or indirectly income-generating may be deemed to fall into the “commercial” category and must therefore be indicated on the request form (Yes/No tick box). These requests will be subject to additional copyright fees.

• Please provide a project name and budget code where applicable, and also the lead researcher or budget holder if known.

• If there is no project budget then one of the 'other options' or alternatives must be ticked.

• With regards to ordering urgent items, please try to give us a date that you would like the item by.

• Please only mark your requests as ‘urgent’ if they are legitimate urgent requests.

• Most urgent requests go to the British Library and cost between £19.50 and £29.70 per item. Urgent book loans cost £28.60 per item – so please check that it is a priority request.

• Please ensure borrowed inter library loans are returned before the due date.  The British Library automatically renews most items for a set period before recall.  This incurs a cost for your project which is currently £5.10 per monthly renewal.
