Biography

I am a Public health nutritionist with over 10 years-experience in nutrition research and interventions in Africa and Europe. Prior to starting my PhD, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Ghana. I was involved in general assistance in research work; undertaking surveys, computation, writing, supervision and training of research assistants.
I joined the University of Sheffield in October 2013, as a PhD student at the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR), Section of Public Health. My PhD project adopted a mixed method research approach to explore the determinants of dietary behaviour, dietary change following migration and household food insecurity among Ghanaians living in Europe.

During my PhD I worked as a Research assistant on an EU project: Determinants of Diet and Physical Activity (DEDIPAC) knowledge Hub; funded by the EC/MRC. To understand the determinant of dietary, physical activity and sedentary behaviours across Europe. I led a team of researchers to conduct a systematic mapping review of factors influencing dietary behaviour among ethnic minority groups.
After my PhD I worked as a Research Associate on two projects in ScHARR:

  • The GCRF TACLED project (Dietary Transitions in African Cities: Leveraging Evidence for interventions and policy to prevent Diet-related non communicable diseases).

https://scharr.dept.shef.ac.uk/tacled/

  • The DFC (Drivers of Food Choice) Dietary transitions in Ghana project

I was also involved in teaching and supervision of master’s dissertation and coordinated the Nutrition in Global South module.

Research Interests

My research interests are in determinants of dietary behaviours and nutrition related non-communicable diseases more generally. I also have interest in nutrition transitions in low and middle income countries; infant and child nutrition in low and middle income countries, food insecurity, healthy and sustainable diets and systematic reviews

Teaching

I am currently based full time within the Clinical Science and Nutrition department at Chester University as a lecturer in Public Health Nutritioin; take a lead on Health Improvement module and help coordinate the public health Nutrition post graduate programme.  I supervise student dissertations in topics related to my research above.
