England reports

Two Reports on Specialist Alcohol Treatment and Prevalence of Alcohol Dependence

Background: The Department of Health Policy Research Programme commissioned research to estimate Requirements for Specialist Alcohol Treatment Capacity in England. Public Health England subsequently commissioned research to update and extend the estimates of prevalence of alcohol dependence with newly available data (Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey 2014) and using revised statistical methods.

Public Health England Report March 2017
Updated national and Local Authority level prevalence of alcohol dependence results are reported here (using APMS 2014 and some revisions to statistical methods).

Please note,
• Estimates of prevalence for alcohol dependence at national and Local Authority level presented in Chapter 4 of the DH Policy Research Programme Report below have been superseded by the update in the Public Health England (PHE) commissioned report below which is based on more recent data from the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey.
• Access Rates calculated in Chapter 5 are also out of date. PHE plans to publish updated access rates in Summer 2017.
