Congratulations on your results!
The University of Sheffield would like to congratulate all students, teachers, schools and colleges on the 2012 exam and qualification results and we extend a warm welcome to those students who will be joining us as undergraduates this month.
Abdi Suleiman, Sheffield Students’ Union President 2012/13, (pictured), commented:
“In a year which has seen huge changes to both schools and higher education, we mustn’t forget that hard working pupils and teachers are the real story behind all the headlines.
Sheffield Students’ Union wishes to congratulate all students and teachers for their efforts. To those who have chosen our University, we pledge to give you the best possible student experience during your time with us. Not only were we named University of the Year by Times Higher Education but we are also proud of having the best Students’ Union in the country – come and help us to keep it that way by getting involved!”
Abdi himself grew up on the doorstep of the University in the Broomhall district of Sheffield. He first got involved with the University via an outreach programme where Philosophy students from the University of Sheffield visited his school, Silverdale. The programme, called Philosophy in the City, still runs and has expanded into Primary schools.
“With all the changes both in Higher Education and in schools it will be a challenging year to be a Student Union official in any educational institution. In Sheffield we are working hard to advocate for home and international students, campaigning for clarity of information on hidden costs so that applicants understand what they will get for their money and providing great Union services so that you get the very best support."
