Throughout June and July, we welcomed over 160 Year 10 pupils participating in the Discover US Outreach programme to a 2-day residential Student Experience event.

Students joined us from over 50 schools across South Yorkshire and had the opportunity to develop skills through a range of team building, communication, problem solving and enterprise activities as well as learning how our students balance university work and social activities on a student budget.

They stayed overnight in our award-winning student accommodation at Endcliffe Village, worked with current undergraduate student ambassadors and discovered the important role that the Students' Union plays in supporting students and enhancing their university experience.

For many students, this was the first time they had done anything like this.

‘Thank you for an amazing residential! It has definitely been the highlight of my year’. Bailey-Mae Mansell, Firth Park Academy.

‘The Student Experience helps you to explore university life; I was reluctant to leave, I enjoyed it so much!’
Lauren Bleese, New Mills School

‘It’s a brilliant, once in a lifetime experience; the student ambassadors have so much advice to offer about university life; you have a brilliant time, make new friends and find out lots about what it’s like to go to university’.
Owen Dickinson, William Allitt School

Kirsten Fretwell, Outreach Officer and Discover US programme co-ordinator said, ‘ The Student Experience is the real highlight of the Discover US programme; a fun-packed, unique and inspirational two-day visit to the University which provides pupils with a real insight in what it is like to be a University of Sheffield student’
