The Inaugural Nanjing Forum
Professor Katherine Morton attended the inaugural Nanjing Forum in China between 18-21 October 2015.
Co-organised by Nanjing University and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, the Forum aims to focus on 'hot issues in the Asia Pacific' alongside existing international fora on history and culture (Beijing Forum) and economics and commerce (Shanghai Forum). The first Nanjing Forum brought together policymakers and scholars to discuss Asia Pacific Security and Maritime Order with an emphasis upon the Chinese initiative on the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (一带一路).
Professor Morton presented two papers on 'Safeguarding the Maritime Commons' and 'Towards a Peaceful Maritime Order in East Asia'.
The research is part of a larger project on the role of China in maritime security and the future of the global commons.
