Dr Ziyi Wei's current research projects
(In collaboration with Dr. Quyen T.K. Nguyen, Henley Business School, University of Reading)
Our current research papers focuses on Chinese multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the impact of home country institutions on the internationalization strategies of these firms, which is a topic of increasing importance in international business and management literature. Specifically, we empirically test the relationship between institutional variables (such as state ownership, government support and institutional voids etc.) and Chinese MNEs’ entry strategy and subsidiary-level strategy.
This makes significant theoretical and empirical contributions to the literature of internationalization of emerging MNEs, to the home country institution of China, and to the current theoretical debate in international business. Our study also has important implications for policy makers in emerging economies, as governments expect firms to internationalize to strengthen the competitiveness of firms and home countries. Additionally, we use a new dataset of the top 500 largest Chinese manufacturing MNEs, with data collected at both subsidiary and parent level.
The papers are either under review in journals or have been drafted.
