Sheffield is an excellent place to be a student. It’s a real home from home for the 45,000-strong student population. Located in the heart of the UK, Sheffield is England’s fourth largest city, yet is compact and easy to get around; with an excellent public transport system that links the university with other parts of the city. Sheffield is one of the safest cities in the country, and is renowned for its friendly ‘village atmosphere’. It also has some of the lowest student living costs of any city in the UK.
As a city, Sheffield has got it all: Ground-breaking annual festivals including Tramlines Music Festival and the Documentary Film Festival, a legendary music scene which is sure to cater to everyone’s taste, galleries with links to the Tate and the V&A, a world-famous theatre scene, and the biggest indie cinema outside London. Moreover, Sheffield is the UK’s greenest city, with 150 woodlands and 50 public parks. A third of the city is located within the Peak District National Park, which makes it the perfect place for walkers, climbers and anyone who loves the outdoors.
