Faculty of Science Scholarships

Five fully funded PhD scholarships – available to students from the UK and international students

The Faculty of Science is the home of science at the University of Sheffield. Our seven departments span the life sciences, chemistry, physics and mathematics, and more than 90% of our research is ranked world-leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

We are training a new generation of scientists dedicated to understanding ourselves, our world and its place in the universe. Our postgraduate researchers are an essential part of a vibrant, engaging and supportive research community, which we invite you to join. We are currently offering five fully funded PhD scholarships in the following departments:

Animal and Plant Sciences: Deepening human understanding of organisms and ecosystems to build a sustainable future

Biomedical Science: 
Leading acclaimed research to develop knowledge of medical conditions and improve treatments

Chemistry: 
Innovative research in the synthesis, properties and applications of molecules

Mathematics and Statistics:
Exploring the length and breadth of pure and applied mathematics and statistics

PhD opportunities

Molecular Biology and Biotechnology: 
Applying the latest technologies to understand the molecular mechanisms that underpin life

Physics and Astronomy: 
Exploring the fundamental laws of the universe and developing pioneering technologies to tackle global challenges

Psychology: 
Investigating and understanding human behaviour and society, to satisfy the human urge to understand why

Eligibility

We welcome applications from students with excellent degrees from UK, EU or overseas institutions. Minimally, applicants should hold or be about to obtain, an upper second class (2:1) degree from a UK university, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised EU or overseas institution. Studentships will be awarded competitively, so relevant research experience and/or Masters level degree qualifications will be significant enhancements. Studentships will pay the equivalence of a standard RCUK stipend and Home, EU or overseas fees as appropriate.
