Technical radiotherapy development and clinical trials
Martin is currently Reader and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Cancer Research Centre, Academic Unit of Clinical Oncology, Weston Park Hospital. He is also a Visiting Professor at Sheffield Hallam University. His research interests focus on technical radiotherapy development and clinical trials. His team is involved in research involving novel radiotherapy techniques such as intensity modulated radiotherapy and new imaging techniques such as PET scanning in head and neck cancer. He is Chief Investigator for the national radiotherapy study in sarcoma called VORTEX. He is also the Principal Investigator for several head and neck studies.
Martin is involved in teaching medical students both in clinics and as organiser of the Phase II Oncology Symposium. He also teach junior doctors at F1, F2 and Specialist Registrar level. Martin is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Weston Park Hospital and is responsible for the management of patients with head and neck cancer, sarcoma and lymphoma. He is involved in various head and neck and sarcoma trials and as the Chief Investigator for the VORTEX trial, he drives the first study ever designed to examine the accurate definition of radiotherapy target volumes in patients with adult extremity with soft tissue sarcomas. In addition, he is a local principal investigator in various other national and international trials.
Martin has authored many publications, and was the founding Editor for the journal `Sarcoma´, an international journal dedicated to multidisciplinary research into connective tissue oncology.
