The Department of Journalism Studies is one of the major journalism research and teaching establishments in Europe. We are committed to a teaching and research programme that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the fields of factual media, journalism and communications. We are seeking an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Departmental Manager for a two year fixed term contract post in the Department of Journalism Studies. You will bring vision, energy and a commitment to leading excellent service delivery for staff and students.

You will have a good honours degree or equivalent qualification or experience, ideally in a Social Sciences discipline. You will have demonstrable experience of leadership in higher education or the public sector and you will work with the Head of Department on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the Department of Journalism Studies remains a successful and inclusive learning and research environment in which staff and students thrive and are valued.

You will have experience of budget management and/or of financial management processes and practices, and implementing process improvement initiatives across a business function together with experience of change management.

You will have strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to build effective networks and working relationships within the Department, the Faculty, University and beyond.

Postgraduate Research Support Officer

Fixed term until 31 December 2019

Are you interested in working for a highly regarded research Department, supporting our vibrant and ambitious PGR (Postgraduate Research) students?

Educated to A’ Level standard with GCSE Maths and English or equivalent experience, we are looking for someone to join our friendly and supportive Professional Services Team. You will be the first point of contact for our PGR students whilst being responsible for managing the relevant processes and procedures to support their study and research. You will also be responsible for managing enquiries from prospective PGR students and advising them about the process and timescales.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised with excellent levels of customer service. You will be working closely with the academic Director, leading on PGR matters, whilst liaising with other relevant teams from across the University, including Faculty and Research Services. You should have administrative experience of working in a complex office environment, supported by excellent IT and communication skills.

Project Manager - Secondment

Fixed-term until 30 October 2020

Student Lifecycle Project

Grade 7
£31,302 to £39,609 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Project Manager, ideally with excellent knowledge of Higher Education. The post will be working with the Student Lifecycle Project
and provides an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivering major change initiatives of significant strategic importance.

This role will require you to work closely with the project team, University stakeholders and third party suppliers to ensure that the developments are delivered on time and to a high quality, focusing on areas such as supporting the project team, resource planning, supporting business decisions and ensuring appropriate project governance is adhered to.

It is anticipated that you will be a Project Manager with experience supporting or implementing system IT based project. You will be able to plan and progress work activities in the mid to longer term, be well organised, a strong communicator with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
Secondments will be considered for internal candidates; however, you must have the approval of your line manager prior to submitting your application.
