Profile

I originally studied to be a primary school teacher in German, English and Mathematics at the University of Frankfurt. However, it was the teaching and learning of languages that was always my passion. From 2015 to 2017 I worked as a student assistant at the Institute of Psycholinguistics and Didactics of German at the University of Frankfurt.

After finishing my Primary Education Studies course, I decided to widen my knowledge of German as a foreign language and I started a MA in ‘German as a Foreign Language and German Studies’ at the University of Bielefeld. During that period I was also active as a research assistant on a language learning project involving newly migrated secondary school students at the University of Cologne. In addition, I was a tutor for German grammar at the University of Frankfurt and at the University of Mainz.

During my work placement in Sheffield I will be helping out with the practical language courses, especially with Final Year students, and getting fully involved in the extra-curricular programme. In addition, I will work on a research project on teaching German as a foreign language.

Research interests

My research interests are foreign/second language learning, teachers’ professional knowledge and preconceptions in language-learning, German grammar and grammar pedagogy in particular. For my dissertation I looked at primary school teachers' conceptualisation of grammar and their beliefs in grammar teaching.

Teaching interests

I worked as a Reading Key Skills teacher and as a private teacher for TEFL as part of my primary education studies. I gained insight into teaching German as a foreign language to young learners by helping out during the annual German Summer Schools for newly migrated secondary school students at the University of Cologne.

At university level I taught courses on German grammar at a number of German universities. From 2017 to 2018 I ran a workshop on German ‘School Grammar’ for trainee teachers at the University of Frankfurt. From 2018 to 2019 I taught German grammar to undergraduates at the University of Mainz.
