Award success for SMI in research innovation and excellence

Dr Aneta Piekut has been awarded the 2017 Sociology SAGE Prize for Innovation and Excellence at the British Sociological Association annual conference.

Aneta’s winning research paper - ‘Other’ Posts in ‘Other’ Places: Poland through a Postcolonial lens? - explores the ethnic prejudice of Polish people by looking at Poland’s complex history through different time periods.

The paper, written in collaboration with Dr Lucy Mayblin and Professor Gill Valentine, has been highly commended by the awards selection committee for being “theoretically innovative, empirically rich and represents sociological scholarship at its best”.

The award has been given today at the British Sociological Association Annual Conference 2017 Recovering the Social: Personal Troubles and Public Issues at the University of Manchester from 4-6 April.
