Profile

I joined the Clinical Trials Research Unit in July 2019 as a Research Assistant, having previously completed a BSc degree in Psychology at the University of Durham.

I am now a Research Associate and manage a three-year research project aiming to re-design Inflammatory Bowel Disease services in Sheffield (AWARE-IBD). In 2022 I was awarded a Scholarship Grant by the British Medical Association (BMA) to fund the MIND Study looking at medical student mental health. In particular, I'm interested in the barriers to help-seeking and accessing mental health support for medical students, as well as challenges to service provision and cross-partnership working. My research is collaborative and involves improving NHS services for IBD and student mental health by working in partnership with service users and professionals. I particularly enjoy co-production activities to improve access to and the quality of mental health support and services.

With an Associate Fellowship in Higher Education Teaching (AFHEA), I regularly teach on the Introduction to Research Methods module (HAR6030) and supervise postgraduate student dissertation projects. Prior to this I assisted on two multi-centre CTIMP studies (MAGIC and ASTIClite).

Teaching activities

Research supervision: I supervise research dissertations in the School of Health and Related Research across the master’s programmes as well as systematic reviews for master’s students and medical students on research attachments and placements. These projects involve quantitative and qualitative research methods to characterise student mental health risk factors and the theories, models and frameworks underpinning suicide-related outcomes for this population.

Teaching: I teach the Introduction to Research Methods (HAR6030) module on the master’s in Public Health. This module includes topics such as research design, quantitative and qualitative research methods, reliability and validity and patient and public involvement.
