World Universities Network - lecture on refugee health in Northern Greece
On the evening of 11th September 2017, researchers from the School of Nursing and Midwifery hosted a guest lecture open to staff and students in the University and wider organisations. Dr Meghan Gunst came to talk about refugee health in Northern Greece with a focus on Syrian populations. The lecture explored the outcomes of healthcare provision to refugee communities in Northern Greece by discussing the health system in Syria prior to the onset of conflict in 2011, the expectations of care that arise as a result and the challenges of addressing these patient expectations in a dynamic and under-resourced health system.
The lecture was well received by both staff and students alike. The guest lecture formed part of a World Universities Network funded grant led by Jill Thompson to explore child migrant’s health experiences.
