MMedSci General Practice Advanced Nurse Practitioner (NURT101)
Who is it for?
This programme will be available again September 2018 enabling experienced practice nurses to develop an advanced role in general practice. Confirmed support for practice learning within a general practice is required to enter the programme.
What is it about?
The programme is informed by the Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England. It covers core advanced capabilities with respect to a role in general practice. Core competency areas include:
- Clinical practice as a primary care generalist
- Management and leadership
- Education - developing self and others
- Research - improving quality and developing practice
The programme aims to develop practice nurses to work with a high degree of autonomy and capability for complex decision making within the primary care team. To contribute to an effective and coordinated response to the needs of the registered population of patients. Able to undertake patient assessment, investigations, diagnostics, planning, prescribing, care management; and with competence in episode based care and person centred continuity for complex needs. The programme integrates module and practice learning within a portfolio to evidence robust initial preparation for an advanced role.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need a good first degree or equivalent evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level. You must have a clinical role in general practice or primary care. You must have confirmation from your employing organisation of their commitment and capacity to support your practice learning towards an advanced role.

The annual tuition fee for self funding or sponsored students for the academic year 2018/19 £3,033. LBR funding may be available, subject to eligibility and availability. Please refer to our funding pages for further information.
