Amber Mayo BMedSci Health and Human Sciences
When did you graduate?
Why did you choose the University of Sheffield?
I chose the University of Sheffield as it has an excellent reputation for research and fantastic facilities.
What do you think of Sheffield?
I love Sheffield! It's big enough to never run out of things to do whilst maintaining the feel of living in a community. I have made lots of friends here from all over the world.
What advice would you give to prospective Health and Human Sciences students?
If you feel that you want a career related to health care in any way but are unsure of what exactly, this is the degree for you. It has a broad focus so you are bound to find the thing that interests you. There are also many opportunities within this department for getting involved in program governance (Learning and Teaching Committee, Board of Studies and the Staff-Student Committee), definitely something for everyone.
What was the most enjoyable and rewarding part of the course?
I really enjoyed the placement aspect, it gave me the opportunity to 'try out' the career i wanted when i graduated.
Also, the staff here are absolutely amazing, I felt supported throughout my degree. I can't say there was an aspect of this course that I didn't enjoy, I even stayed within the department to do my postgraduate study.
What are you doing now?
I am currently in my first year of postgraduate adult nursing (still at the University of Sheffield).
Do you think your degree helped (is helping you) further your career?
Without a doubt, I started this course without an idea of what I wanted to do after, in my three years here I had the opportunity to explore lots of different options.
This course is also an excellent foundation for nursing!
