PhD opportunities
Opportunities are available through the Faculty of Social Sciences' thirteen departments and Centre for Doctoral Training.

The Global Challenges Centre for Doctoral Training provides a stimulating interdisciplinary environment for students to research a key global challenge. There are 6 projects for students starting their PhD in the 2023 - 2024 academic year. These projects sit under two key themes: New Horizons in Borders and Bordering and Emerging Urban Inequalities.
Centre for Doctoral Training
Data Analytics and Society is an ESRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) providing postgraduate research and training at the faculty's Sheffield Methods Institute and three other universities (Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester).
The CDT offers exciting opportunities to undertake a 4-year funded integrated MSc and PhD in Data Analytics and Society.
The programme includes an integrated MSc in Data Analytics over the first two years which will provide you with the foundation skills to complete your research project.

Centre for Doctoral Training in New Horizons in Borders and Bordering

We are pleased to be able to offer funding for two home fee paying studentships and one international fee paying studentship for the New Horizons in Borders and Bordering theme. In addition, a Research Training Support Grant of £2,250 is available for each studentship across the funded period to support the costs of research, such as fieldwork and conference attendance.
