Getting Involved - Student-Staff Committee

A great way to get involved and find out a bit more how the department works is to join the Student-Staff Committee.

It meets four times a year and has representation from all courses and programmes. It's an opportunity to contribute your views and those of others on your course.

Organisation and focus of meetings:
  • Student Staff Committee is chaired by a 'rolling' student chairperson;

Opportunity to:
  • Get involved in departmental activities such as admissions open days;
  • Represent your peers' views and interests and make a difference to the student experience in the Department;
  • talk to students on other courses in the department and learn about their experiences.
Examples of issues discussed in the past:
  • Admissions, input from student representatives had a real impact in the literature sent out to applicants and to the organisation and presentation at Admissions Open Days;
  • Dissertations, discussion and well expressed needs by students prompted the department to redevelop and improve presentation and support given to students who undertake dissertations.

Getting Involved - Faculty Student-Staff Committee

There are also opportunities for you to get involved in Student-Staff Committees at Faculty level.

The Department is looking for two Faculty Student Representatives - an undergraduate, and a postgraduate taught student. There are three meetings per year, which are divided into two sections. The first hour is a formal committee meeting, and the second hour is an informal discussion on a learning and teaching topic that provides students the chance to engage with and shape new developments within the Faculty.
