Hannah joined the Department of Sociological Studies as a Research Associate in 2022. She recently completed her PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University, examining the role of images in the spread of disinformation on social media. This project was funded through an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Collaborative Doctoral Award in partnership with First Draft. Her research interests include visual social media, digital methods, and online mis- and disinformation. Hannah is also a member of the Visual Social Media Lab, which brings together a group of internationally leading interdisciplinary researchers from academia and industry interested in analysing social media images.

Research interests

Hannah is a Research Associate for a Horizon 2020 project entitled "D.Rad: De-Radicalisation in Europe and Beyond: Detect, Resolve, Re-integrate". The work package she is involved with examines mainstreaming of radicalisation on social media platforms and media's potential roles in de-radicalisation. This part of a large international team in Europe and the Middle East.

With the Visual Social Media Lab, her current projects explore images shared on Twitter during the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement, and visual media literacy education in the UK and Canada.
