Henry joined the Department of Sociological Studies as a Research Associate in February 2023, having previously worked as Knowledge Exchange Associate for the Faculty of Social Sciences. He completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield in Human Geography (July 2021), which explored the reintegration of guerrilla combatants in Colombia. Henry is broadly interested in the intersection of urban politics and peacebuilding processes, and has taught modules on the MA in International Public and Political Communication (Department of Journalism) and the BA in Human Geography. Prior to joining academia, Henry worked in local government and in the education sector.

Henry’s main research areas are: urban violence and securitisation, the local politics of peacebuilding and urban reintegration processes. Henry was previously Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the ESRC-funded project Improbable Dialogues: Participatory Research as a Strategy for Reconciliation, which explored the dynamics of community participation in peacebuilding in Colombia, recipient of the ESRC Outstanding Societal Impact Prize in 2021.
Current Projects:
- Henry conducts qualitative research for the European Commission H2020-funded project D.Rad: De-Radicalisation in Europe and Beyond: Detect, Resolve, Re-integrate (2020-23), supporting Work Package 9: Spatial Aspects of Deradicalisation Processes.
- Henry supports data collection, analysis and knowledge exchange for the ESRC/Nordforsk-funded project Life at the Frontier (2020-23) which explores the dynamics of migrant integration across the UK, Norway and Sweden.
