The lecture on the theme of ‘Migration-Induced Social Change in Poland’ was given by Professor Izabela Grabowska from SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw and Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw. Professor Grabowska described a wide array of quantitative and qualitative data that is documented in her forthcoming book ‘The Impact of Migration on Poland: EU Mobility and Social Change’ (with Anne White, Pawel Kaczmarczyk and Krystyna Slany, UCL Press) in which the Polish society is discussed in light of other ‘new EU countries’ of Central and Eastern Europe. The lecture took up some of the themes addressed in an article to be submitted to Social Policy and Society.

Commenting on the success of the lecture, the co-editors of Social Policy and Society, Dr Liam Foster and Dr Majella Kilkey, said: “We are delighted to have hosted such an engaging lecture with an internationally renowned speaker and we are looking forward to future years”.

Liam, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and Social Work, and Majella, Reader in Social Policy, are in their third year of a five-year term as editors of Social Policy and Society, a peer-reviewed journal jointly owned by Cambridge University Press and the UK Social Policy Association.

Social Policy and Society represents one of the key leading social policy journals in the UK. It has a proven track record of excellence, particularly in relation to attracting submissions on contemporary policy-related research and associated developments in the social sciences from established academics and early career researchers from the UK, Europe and internationally.

Each issue contains a selection of peer-reviewed articles and, uniquely, a themed-section edited by a guest editor(s).

In association with the UK Social Policy Association, the Journal also runs the Insight into Publishing Scheme, which gives PhD students the opportunity to learn more about the process of getting published in journals.

In addition to Cambridge University Press, the 2018 Social Policy and Society Annual Lecture was partly supported by the Noble Foundation as part of the ‘Modern Poland’ project, which is a collaboration between leading scholars from the Migration Research Group at the University of Sheffield and the Centre for Migration Research at the University of Warsaw. This project is funded by the Noble Foundation's Programme on Modern Poland. It runs from October 2017 to September 2019.
