The University is committed to maintaining and ensuring a safe and secure environment for students and staff. The Security Services team (Patrol Officers and Control Room staff) are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Security Services handle crime related incidents and security matters on University premises. University security personnel patrol the campus and residences on foot, and in security vehicles and can be directed to assist in dealing with incidents, through the University’s Control Room on the above telephone number. Security staff carry University identity cards and the name “SECURITY” is openly displayed on their uniform. You are encouraged to approach these personnel at any time for help, advice or reassurance - they are there to help you.
CCTV Surveillance is in operation for the safety and well-being of students and staff and is monitored by Control Room staff. The University’s Security staff are available to give advice and assistance to all students and staff.
Local Policing Team
South Yorkshire Police has a good relationship with the University of Sheffield. The Residences and the Broomhill area are covered by the Broomhill Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) which is based on University premises at Crewe Flats, Clarkehouse Road. The team consists of 1 Inspector, 1 sergeant, 7 Police Constables and 6 Police Community Support Officers.
The team can be contacted on 0114 296 4876 for advice and information. The University Campus is covered as part of a wider area of the City Centre by the Central SNT. The Central SNT can be contacted by calling the South Yorkshire Police switchboard on the 121 direct local number. Specific enquiries can be directed to the Universities dedicated point of contact PC Bob Kenny by emailing him at
Both teams work together with the University, the Students’ Union and Sheffield City Council to form a recognised partnership.
