About the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service
Disability and Dyslexia Support Service is a friendly and confidential service providing support and advice to enable students to access their studies and university services
Supporting Disabled Students
The University is committed to making its facilities and curriculum as accessible as possible to all students, including those with additional support requirements.
The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service provides support to students who have made contact with the service. This support is tailored to the specific needs of the individual student for more information) and recommendations are sent, with the student’s permission, to the departmental Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs) to be disseminated to relevant members of the academic department.
There are also a number of adjustments that departments and members of staff can make which will help support disabled students studying at the University of Sheffield and will make courses accessible to all students.
We hope this section will give you a brief overview of how best to support students in your department rather than being a comprehensive guide. It is important that staff are receptive to a student´s requirements, and where appropriate an ongoing dialogue should be maintained regarding these. The DDSS is committed to supporting departments to make these adjustments so if you have any queries do contact us for further guidance.
