Worried about a student? : An Overview of Welfare Support

Mental ill health, difficulty settling in to university, family problems or injury are just some of the challenges that can affect a student's ability to cope with day-to-day life, as well as their academic responsibilities.

This session has been designed to help staff who have regular contact with students in a supporting role.  It will cover practical ways to support students, highlight key welfare services within the university and when to refer students to them, the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries, and confidentiality and data protection issues.

We will also discuss the role of the Central Welfare and Guidance Team in Student Services and the support that you can expect as a member of staff.

Format: Presentation / Q&A / Workshop

Audience: All staff from academic and professional services departments whose role includes supporting students.
