Unfair means: managing student cases, procedures and good practice

This session is designed for staff in academic departments whose role includes investigating and responding to allegations of the use of unfair means.

The session will inform and enhance the understanding of investigating and responding to allegations of the use of unfair means in light of new guidance and recommendations issued by the University Regulator, the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. 

We aim to provide you with:

  • an overview of the procedures for investigating and responding to unfair means both within the academic department and via the student disciplinary process.
  • good practice to include compliance with the OIA guidance: Good Practice Framework: Disciplinary Procedures
  • enhance understanding and confidence in dealing with such cases
  • An overview of the Student Conducts and Appeals Team.

Format: Presentation, case studies and group discussion

Audience: All staff in academic departments whose role includes investigating and responding to allegations of the use of unfair means.

Length: 2 hours
