Colleagues from ACS are winners at university catering awards
Colleagues from across our catering outlets in Accommodation and Commercial Services (ACS) recently achieved impressive results in the University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) competitions. Winners and prizes included Ben Slater from INOX Dine coming first in the Afternoon Tea category, and Rob Hattersley from gUSto and the Edge Kitchen gaining gold and ‘Best in Class’ in the dessert category.
ACS staff members competed in a variety of different categories for culinary skills at the event in Warwick. Other participants in the competitions included INOX chef Joe Berry, along with Chris Marsh from the Diamond Kitchen and Gareth Crocker from Jessop Cafe, who both scored highly in the TUCO Barista Challenge making signature drinks such as an iced latte infused with lavendar and a tomato infused iced americano.
The University Caterers Organisation is the leading professional membership body for in-house caterers operating in the higher and further education sector. The organisation supports the learning and development of catering and hospitality teams through training courses and online resources, as well as providing quality standards, advice and information to the sector.
TUCO holds annual skills competitions with participants from a wide range of universities competing against each other in different skills, including creating a three course meal in the Chef’s Challenge, brewing perfect coffee in the Barista Challenge and shaking the best cocktails in the Bar Skills Competition.
ACS catering teams are responsible for providing a huge range of essential services and facilities to staff, students and visitors across the University. They run over 19 high quality bars and food outlets, and provide hospitality and catering for meetings, conferences and special events, such as weddings and graduations.
