Message from the Vice-Chancellor: Additional Easter closure days

Dear colleagues,

The last few weeks have been extremely challenging for us all, and I would like to thank you for your remarkable efforts in helping us cope with circumstances that none of us could have foreseen only a few months ago. We have had to make significant changes to the way we live and work and I have been overwhelmed by the positive spirit shown by everyone in our community.

To thank you, and to provide what will be a much-needed break, the University would like to give all colleagues an additional two days paid leave over Easter, on Thursday 9 and Tuesday 14 April 2020.

These two days will be treated as extra University closure days and will be in addition to your annual leave entitlement. Please take these days off for some respite - reschedule any non-essential University work, meetings or calls you have planned and have a well-deserved break.

A small number of colleagues are in roles that have been identified as business critical during this time. The same principles and practices we adopt for the closure days over Christmas will apply for these colleagues and, where appropriate, you should speak to your line manager about taking time off in lieu at a later stage and/or any premium pay rates in line with your terms and conditions of employment.

If you are required to work on these days, I would like to thank you for your dedication in ensuring our campus remains secure, that our students who remain in accommodation are supported, and that our critical research equipment and resources are maintained. We are extremely grateful for everything you do.

Once again, I'd like to thank you all for your support and flexibility. I know that there are likely to be more challenging times ahead, and it is important that we continue to support and look after each other.

With best wishes,

Koen Lamberts
President and Vice-Chancellor
