Appointment of new Chief Financial Officer
We are delighted to announce that Joanne Jones will join the University on 3 February 2020 as our new Chief Financial Officer.
Joanne is currently Finance Director at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). A chartered public finance accountant, she started her career in the university sector working at York and Nottingham universities. She went on to work as Finance Director at Lincoln and Oxford Brookes, before joining Queen Mary University of London.
Joanne has taken a lead role on a number of successful projects, including working with Siemens to open the first new school of engineering in 24 years at Lincoln; working with the Director of Estates to oversee the financial management of a £120m new teaching and learning building at Oxford Brookes; and more recently raising a £160m private placement to fund teaching and research infrastructure requirements to deliver Queen Mary University of London's new 2030 strategy.
In her role as Chief Financial Officer, Joanne will have overall responsibility for developing and implementing our University’s financial strategy, whilst maintaining sound financial oversight and administration in managing our University’s financial affairs.
Joanne said: “I am excited to be joining Sheffield. It is an excellent university and has the best parts of the universities I've worked in to date, from the quality of its teaching and research, to the relationships it has with manufacturing companies. I'm very much looking forward to working with colleagues to build on and increase this impact.”
Joanne will take over the role from Helen Dingle, who will sadly be leaving the University after 22 years at the end of December. Helen has been instrumental in protecting the University’s financial interests and thanks to her hard work and commitment we are in a strong financial position for the challenging times ahead.
