The Big Uni Bake 2020

Winner Melanie with Rahul Mandal

Thank you to everyone who recently took part in and came along to our Big Uni Bake on Friday 21 February. We’re delighted to say that your showstopping bakes helped to raise £150 for Parkinson’s Disease research at our University.

The Big Uni Bake is an annual collaboration between Residence Life, Inox, Accommodation and Commercial Services (ACS) Marketing and Campaigns and Alumni Relations (CAR). This year we received over 45 entries from staff and students across three categories: whole cakes, free-from and cupcakes.

Entries were judged by a panel of expert chefs and keen bakers, chaired by Steve Salt from The Sheffield College and included Catherine McKeown (Student Support & Guidance), Sarah Adams (Widening Participation & Recruitment), Martha Evans (SU Activities Officer), Joe Berry & Ben Slater (Inox Chefs), and Jamie Tune (ACS Marketing).

Winner of the staff category was Melanie Viphakone for her woodland-themed squirrel cake and winner of the student category was Fatima Bucklain for her beautiful floral creation.

Prizes were awarded by our very own baking superstar, Rahul Mandal, Research Associate at the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre at the AMRC, who also gave a baking demonstration.

Once the prizes were awarded, staff and students were able to sample the entries at the bake sale, with all money raised going to support Parkinson’s Disease research.
