Forging links with Bolivia
On Monday 17 October we welcomed Bolivian Ambassador, His Excellency Roberto Calzadilla Sarmiento, to the University on a visit to acknowledge and cement our links with the country.
Ruth Lauener and Dörte Stevenson from Global Engagement greeted the party from the Bolivian Embassy and our Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching Professor Wyn Morgan presented them with gifts as a thank you for visiting.
Professor Wyn Morgan, said: "I was delighted to welcome His Excellency Roberto Calzadilla Sarmiento to the University. We are very pleased to have Bolivian students studying with us and I hope that we may strengthen our cooperation in the years to come."
Our University was chosen to host the party which gathered to celebrate a new scholarship scheme, enabling up to 100 Bolivian students per year to attend overseas universities for Masters and PhDs.
During the visit to Sheffield, the party were joined by our two current Bolivian students as well as Bolivian students from the Universities of Aberdeen, City, Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham, Surrey and UCL. The party also toured the Diamond and AMRC, chatting to colleagues about our facilities.
The visit comes in advance of our first recruitment visit to Bolivia later this month, and a meeting with Bolivia’s Minister of Education.
