Celebrating 10 years of Green Impact success
Thank you to all our colleagues who have helped to make our University more sustainable by taking part in Green Impact this year and the previous 10 years during which the scheme has run.
Green Impact is a nationwide scheme which brings staff and students together to increase sustainability across their campus.
Colleagues collaborate to complete practical challenges within their department, working towards bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards.
From energy-saving initiatives to ethical lunches, and from recycling drives to walk-to-work weeks, Green Impact teams within both our academic and professional services departments lead a wide range of innovative activities that reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day work.
Our teams’ Green Impact efforts are a key part of our University’s commitment to a 43% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020.
Over the 2017/18 academic year, project teams from across our University have achieved great successes.
Some of our University’s highlights from this year
- Over 2,300 colleagues across our University have engaged with Green Impact.
- 13 bronze awards, 10 silver awards and 15 gold awards were won by our department teams.
- Over 2,000 green actions have been put in place.
- Over 500 tonnes of CO2 and at least £175,000 were saved.
Alongside the departmental Green Impact teams, the scheme is facilitated by student auditors and Green Impact Project Assistants (GIPAs), who support and assess project teams across our University to meet their green targets. This year, almost 100 of our students received specialist training in these roles, developing their skills in leadership, communication and project management.
Green Impact 2018/19
For Green Impact Sheffield's 10th birthday, we've moved away from the traditional actions list method and now teams have the opportunity to design and complete their own small sustainability projects within their departments. Projects will include, raising money for local charities, improving recycling rates and organising local litter picks and improving health and wellbeing by organising department walks and healthy team lunches. Look out for your local teams projects this coming year.
You can still sign up to your department's Green Impact team, find out who they are by emailing email@example.com
Thank you for all your hard work. We look forward to making an even bigger Green Impact in 2018/19!
