Christmas 2019 Bank Holiday and closure day information
This year’s Christmas and New Year closures will be as follows:
Tuesday 24 December at 4pm – the vast majority of University buildings will close at this time and re-open on at 7am on Thursday 2 January 2020.
Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December are Bank Holidays. Friday 27, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December are closure days. Wednesday 1 January 2020 is a Bank Holiday.
The only University building which will remain open is the Information Commons, which will be open 24/7 throughout the holiday period. However, after previous consultation with the Students’ Union officers and analysis of usage data, it has been agreed that levels 0-4 will remain open throughout the holiday period between 7am and 10pm, however access will be limited to levels 0-2 between 10pm and 7am.
This limited access will mean we can save as much energy as possible whilst still providing a good service to those students who use the IC over the holiday period.
Do you require out of hours access over the Christmas break?
Any colleagues requiring out of hours access to support essential research activities during the Christmas break must advise their departmental manager or laboratory superintendent and provide their name and details of the building they wish to gain access to. All information must then be forwarded to the University’s Security Supervisor Team at firstname.lastname@example.org by 4pm, Wednesday 18 December 2019, who will in turn brief colleagues within the Security Control of authorised access.
All essential staff requiring access must have already completed out of hours training and departments are strongly advised to complete risk assessments for the activities that are being undertaken.
