Congratulations to our Human Resources team

Congratulations to our Human Resources team for two recent accolades. On 23 June they picked up the award for Outstanding HR team at the Times Higher Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs) and on 28 June they were Highly Commended for best HR team at the HR Excellence awards.

Andrew Dodman, Chief Human Resources and Corporate Officer said of the THELMA award: “Winning this award is wonderful news for our Human Resources team. They are a fantastic team, with creativity, dedication and commitment to developing the culture of excellence and collaboration at the heart of our University."

“The THELMA award and the success of Talent First are also thanks to people from across the University. We’ve worked in partnership with academic and professional colleagues and in collaboration with our Students’ Union – thank you to everyone for making this a remarkable place to work.”

Although we’ll soon be issuing an update to our people strategy Talent First, the THELMA award recognised Talent First 2013–2015.

This was based on our ambition and vision to create a remarkable place to work through attracting and engaging more than 8,000 staff working across the University.

These results were also reflected in the University’s inclusion within the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2016.

Reasons to celebrate

The THELMA judging panel agreed that our University sounds like “a really great place to work.” Areas recognised include:

  • Our bespoke induction portal: launched in 2014, this has improved interaction with new staff, with 81 per cent saying that it helped them to settle into their new role. One user said: 'It made me feel incredibly proud to join the University of Sheffield.'
  • Our staff survey: 94 per cent of respondents in our most recent staff survey said that they are proud to work for the University and 89 per cent would recommend the University as an excellent place to work.
  • Juice: over 2,400 of us have attended an activity with our sector-leading Juice wellbeing programme, which also picked up a Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work for award - the Wellbeing Special Award -  earlier this year.
  • Equality and diversity: We are a Stonewall Top 100 Employer. We have the highest proportion of female professors in the Russell Group, and we currently hold 19 Athena SWAN awards.
