Join the University team for Cycle September

We’ve signed up as an organisation for Cycle September, a fun, free cycling challenge hosted by Love to Ride and supported by local authorities and the NHS.

Whether your bike is looking lonely in the garden shed or you’re a seasoned rider, take to two wheels and log your bike rides during September.

Bikes

What's it all about?

The initiative aims to get more than 1,000 people across 100 companies in South Yorkshire on their bikes.

As well as helping make our city’s air cleaner and fresher, cycling is a great way to get from A to B faster whilst saving money.

Once signed up to the challenge, you’ll also have the opportunity to enter prize draws for holidays, bikes, vouchers and more.

Join the University team

As our University is already registered as an organisation, all you have to do is sign up to our team.

Just register your details (including a contact email address) and select University of Sheffield from the 'work place' drop-down menu.

Once registered, you'll be able to earn points and climb the leaderboard by logging rides and encouraging others.

All types of rides, from your morning commute to weekend adventures, will count towards our team total.

Let's try to beat the competition and make sure we don't get left in the dust!

Pedal power

Cycling is fun and faster than walking, but did you know what a positive impact you’re actually making when you choose this nifty mode of transport?

Your health

What happens if you replace your twenty minute car journey with an hour's cycling?

You'll burn up to 600 calories per hour (you can cycle around 12 miles in an hour at a leisurely pace).

Regular cyclists can be as fit as an average person 10 years their junior

Cycling can make you feel happier by increasing your serotonin levels and giving you energy.

Public health and the environment

Air pollution is linked to 500 premature deaths in Sheffield every year, with many more people suffering from wider health complications. (source: Green Party, Sheffield).
