Get out of the office this summer with EFM's lunchtime walks
Summer is the perfect time to get out of the office on your lunchtime and get moving, especially with the wonderful weather we've been enjoying.
To help you enjoy the sunshine away from your desk, Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) are hosting a series of lunchtime walks in July. The walks are a perfect opportunity to get out of the office and away from your screen at lunchtime. Bookable through the Juice health and wellbeing platform, the walks include a campus history tour, a dog walk with Guide Dogs and a nature walk with the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust. They are easy going and give you the opportunity to appreciate our lovely campus and surrounding green spaces.
You can book all the walks through the Juice platform. Places are limited so make sure you book on early to avoid disappointment, and don't forget to bring sensible footwear for all the walks.
Dog walk with Guide Dogs
Monday 23 July 12 - 1pm
The Guide Dogs charity strives to allow people who are blind and partially sighted to enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else. The walk, which will start outside the Arts Tower and take us around Weston Park, will be lead by a group of working guide dogs and puppies in training.
This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and de-stress while meeting the dogs and their owners. You will have the opportunity to ask the guide dog owners and puppy trainers any questions you have while we walk through the park. There will be collection buckets at the event - donate what you can on the day.
Miles with Miles - a walking tour of Sheffield
Tuesday 24 July 12.45 - 1.30pm
Are you interested in finding out more about the place where you work? Have your lunch break alfresco with a guided tour of our campus led by Miles Stevenson.
Miles is the University’s Director of Advancement, in the Development, Alumni Relations & Events office, and has worked at the University for 16 years. In this time, he has picked up some fascinating information about our wonderful campus, from our foundation and our motto to the history of our buildings.
Miles will lead the walk, which will include Firth Court, the concourse and the Students’ Union, the Information Commons and, if time, the Diamond and Mappin Street. Miles will share his architectural and historical knowledge of the University. The tour will be full of vibrant stories and anecdotes that will make you proud to work for the University.
To whet your appetite, you can watch a short Youtube series from Miles.
Wildlife Walk with the Wildlife Trust
Wednesday 25 July 12.15 - 1.15pm
Do you love nature and want to know more about the wildlife on our doorstep? Take a break from your desk and join the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust as they give us a guided tour of Sunnybank nature reserve, just a 15 minute walk from the University campus.
You will learn about the site's history, current management and learn about the wildlife in the reserve, including a chance to do a spot of pond dipping!
We will meet outside the Arts Tower at 12:15, walk together to the reserve and be back to the Arts Tower for 13:15. If you would like to bring your lunch, there will be a chance to stop and eat at the reserve.
