Encouraging more students to spend time abroad
Have you heard of the Go International: Stand Out campaign - the UK’s national campaign to increase student participation in international mobility? Led by Universities UK International (UUKi), this campaign aims to turn around the significantly low number of UK domestic students who choose to go abroad as part of their degree.
Our University has pledged to support this campaign, which aims to double the percentage of UK-domiciled students who study, work or volunteer abroad by 2020 and takes a particular focus on widening participation.
UUKi research has indicated that students who go abroad are more likely to perform better in key indicators in Higher Education, such as academic outcomes and employability, and the UK lags behind many other countries with only 6.6% of UK undergraduate students participating in international activities during their degree.
On Wednesday 27 June Universities UK International will be visiting our University to deliver a presentation and workshop session on the campaign and what colleagues across our Unversity can do to boost student international mobility. All are welcome to attend.
The session will provide an opportunity to talk to UUKi staff about the campaign and learn about international opportunities open to students at Sheffield, plus trends and activities taking place on a national level. This session is open to all staff who wish to learn more about the benefits of international experience and particularly relevant for those who work in outreach, employability or learning and teaching. UUKi staff will also be welcoming participants' feedback and ideas.
The session will take place on Wednesday 27th June from 2pm-4pm, in the ICOSS Conference room, refreshments will be available.
Places are limited, therefore if you would like to attend please book your place by completing the sign-up form before Thursday 21st June.
