See Paul Blomfield MP at HE Policy Network event

paul story Staff from across our University are warmly invited to the next Higher Education Policy Network event from 4pm-6pm on Monday 2 October in the Students' Union's Inox Conference Suite.

We are pleased to announce that the guest speaker is our former University colleague Paul Blomfield MP, who will give a talk on HE: The Insider View from Parliament. This will be followed by a question and answer session.

The event is free to attend but places are limited, so book online to ensure your place.  Please note that the talk will start at 4.15pm.

Paul Blomfield was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Sheffield Central in May 2010 and was recently re-elected with a 27,748 majority. He is a Shadow Minister for Exiting the European Union, with a brief that includes higher education, science and research, as well as free movement and EU nationals.

Paul worked at our University prior to his election and has also served as a Governor at Sheffield Hallam University. He represents both universities and has the highest number of students in any UK constituency – at more than 36,000. He is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Students, which he set up in 2014.

More recently he set up the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Students, with Lord Karan Bilimoria, which he co-chairs. Paul is also Secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Universities Group and was a member of the Higher Education and Research Bill Committee. In 2015, he was voted ‘Most Inspiring Higher Education Leader’ in the Guardian University Awards.
