Project SunbYte: Launching into the stratosphere

The Sheffield University Nova Balloon Telescope - otherwise known as Project SunbYte - is an initiative to revolutionise solar telescope technology. Using novel manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, the team have developed a low-cost alternative to expensive solar telescope models.

This video follows the team, led by multidisciplinary students from our University in collaboration with partner institutions, as they head to Sweden to launch the telescope above the Earth’s lower atmosphere. See the moment months of hard work and innovation pay off as the telescope sets out on its mission to observe the sun.
