Funding available to attend summer learning and teaching conferences

This summer we are hosting two learning and teaching conferences at the University. Since there is a cost involved in attending, we are pleased to be able to offer some funded places to University of Sheffield staff.

If you are interested and would like to ask about funding please email Kimberley Marwood in Academic and Learning Services at k.marwood@sheffield.ac.uk by 4pm, Tuesday 13 June.

NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising

The future of academic advising: Connecting and consolidating students' experiences and education

We are proud to be hosting the NACADA International Conference this July. Academic advising means using resources available at the university to refer students to the appropriate academic support services. It is a decision-making process in which the sharing of information between student and advisor promotes responsible and appropriate choices and facilitates a successful academic experience.

We hope this conference will provide further evidence of the positive impact of advising and tutoring, and bring colleagues together to discuss how the advising community needs to respond to the future needs of our students and institutional environments.

Enhancing student learning through innovative scholarship

There is significant evidence to suggest that collaborative teaching enhances the student learning experience. Collaboration can of course take many forms and operate on many levels. From peer assisted learning to flipped classrooms and partnering with industry, to name but a few, higher education in the UK has many exemplars of excellent practice.
