Changes to PGT and PGR start dates 2020-21

Professor Wyn Morgan provides an update on the University's decision to delay start dates for PGT and PGR courses.

Dear colleague,

As the pandemic continues to affect how we operate, we are moving forward with our plans to offer a blended learning approach for the new academic year.

I am writing to update you that we have taken the decision to delay the start dates for the majority of PGT courses to Monday 26 October. The same start date will apply for PGR students, unless they are part of an inter-institutional cohort, where start dates may be dictated by the consortium.

The change to the start date will enable our overseas students in particular to ensure that they can meet the conditions of their offer and plan their arrival in Sheffield. We will be writing to all prospective students later today to inform them of this change.

No other changes to the UG or PGT semester dates are planned and we expect that campus will be open in September. Students will be expected to be in Sheffield where possible, and those unable to do so due to travel restrictions, for medical reasons or because of a disability, will be encouraged to discuss necessary adaptations with their department.

Further details and guidance to inform the planning on a departmental level has been shared with Heads of Departments. We have also updated our FAQs.

The Elevate team, in consultation with an Expert Advisory Panel of academic colleagues, has developed a range of resources to support all staff in preparing for blended and digital teaching in the next academic year and we will share details with you in next week's Staff Update.

Thank you as ever for your ongoing work and support.

With best wishes,
Wyn Morgan
