Calling all runners!

The Sheffield 10K raising funds for the Sheffield Scanner

Have you been inspired by the Big Walk? If so, here's another chance to take part in a challenge. Could you run 10K to help raise funds for the Sheffield Scanner?

On Sunday 24 September 2017 thousands of runners will descend on the city's streets to take part in the Asda Foundation Sheffield 10K. The University is calling on 20 staff to run in the event to raise funds to support the University's £2 million Sheffield Scanner fundraising campaign.

This much-talked about event starts in Arundel Gate in the heart of the city and takes runners on a journey along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of pretty Endcliffe Park. It continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, past the Endcliffe Village, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to an exhilarating city centre finish.

This event will appeal to committed runners and also those who are prepared to train over the next few weeks and who will relish a true running and fundraising challenge.

If you'd like to be part of the team we would love to hear from you. We would like the team to represent all parts of the University community and, depending on interest, there may have to be a ballot.

The University is meeting the costs of the entry and we will provide you with a running t-shirt and fundraising advice to set you on your way. We want all participants to be fully committed to using their networks within and outside the University and to raise in excess of £200 each for the Sheffield Scanner. We hope that everyone who takes part will find the experience testing, fulfilling and fun – and that medical research will be advanced through this fundraising endeavour.

Register your interest

The deadline for all responses is Thursday 27 July and we look forward to hearing from you.

Should the event become oversubscribed then a ballot will take place. You will receive a confirmation of your place on Friday 28 July.

If you are already entered in the run and haven't chosen a charity cause to run for, please do consider raising funds for the Sheffield Scanner, and let us know so that we can support you.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Dave Meadows
