Skiing for scholarship success!
Dr Paula Gould, Campaigns Project Manager in Development, Alumni Relations and Events, recently embarked on a mission like no other. To raise money for scholarships, Paula took to the Swiss Alps to compete in the Engadin Skimarathon.
The world-famous Engadin Skimarathon race took place on Sunday 10 March. It is the largest cross-country ski event in Switzerland and the second largest in the world.
We're delighted to report that Paula not only completed the full marathon race but also clocked a far faster finish time than she could have dared hope for.
Paula said: “First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you for all of the support, kind messages of encouragement and contributions towards my skiing for students appeal. Knowing how many people were supporting this challenge made me believe I could actually do this - and there were many times when I really thought I couldn't!
“I'm absolutely thrilled that despite my rather amateur cross-country ski technique, I not only survived the Engadin Ski Marathon unscathed but actually crossed the finish line in an amazing 4:01:59!! I still can't quite believe this, but both my watch and the official chip timing agree it happened.”
Paula has raised over £1,200. All money donated will go towards scholarships for students starting here at Sheffield in September 2019.
