SU Officer Elections 2017 – your help needed

Peggy Lim

Early in the New Year all students will have the opportunity to stand for a position in the Students’ Union officer elections. The nomination period is 6–17 February.

The SU officers are a team of eight full-time, paid representatives who run the Students’ Union. Students can either take a sabbatical year or take up a position straight after their final year.

The democracy team in the Students’ Union is asking us help to empower all students to use their democratic voice – whether that’s through standing for a position themselves, or simply casting a vote in March.

If you would like to help, here are a few ideas that will only take a few minutes of your time:

Do you know a student who would make a good leader?

Students who are recommended before Christmas have time to research the opportunity over the holidays. And past experience shows that being recommended is a huge compliment boost to students, particularly if the recommendation comes from a member of staff.

Recommend a student for the SU officer elections 2017

Mention the elections to students, for example in a lecture

We’ve put together a PowerPoint slide and would be grateful if you could include this at the start of lectures.

Attend a short staff briefing

The democracy team would love to meet you in person, drop in to find out more about the elections:

  • Thursday 19 January, 10–10.30am (Nelson Mandela Auditorium, SU)
