Sustainable Festive Fayre - thank you for taking part

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the University’s first Sustainable Festive Fayre. We’re delighted to announce that you’ve helped to raise a fantastic £669.50 towards the Desert Garden appeal. Whether you baked, crafted, or donated, you’re helping to transform the lives of families displaced by war in Jordan.

The fayre followed on from the success of previous Needlework Craft Fairs, with talented colleagues from the University’s Needlework group producing crafts and gifts.

Prizes for the tombola were generously donated by local businesses including, Independent Sheffield; Henderson’s Relish; Regather; Thornbridge brewery; The Treehouse; Good Taste; BetterPoints; Accommodation and Commercial Services; Film Unit; Bar one and Sport Sheffield.

We were also joined by Harry Wright, Dr Moaed Al Meselmani and Jacob Nickles, from the Institute of Sustainable Food who demonstrated the pioneering science behind the Desert Garden project which is enabling families displaced by war to grow fresh food without soil in the desert. Staff and students were able to take home kits to grow their own plans without soil for a donation.

Maddie Sinclair, Community Fundraising Manager said “It was fantastic to see so many people at the fayre browsing the wonderful festive stalls, winning great prizes on the tombola and engaging with our scientists at the Desert Garden stall. Thank you to everyone who came down, hope you all enjoyed yourselves!”
