Leading the way on a vital campaign

Flags on City HallOur ground-breaking #weareinternational initiative has led to the development of a new social media campaign to help universities showcase the contribution international students make to the UK.

In the run up to the General Election, Universities UK, Education UK and NUS have teamed up to host a national social media campaign to celebrate international students and international alumni, providing a platform for them to share their stories with the rest of the public about why they chose to study in the UK.

The campaign will run throughout March using #WeAreInternational

The social media campaign is part of a communications pack designed to help universities make the case for international students to local MPs, Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and other key local decision makers and includes key facts, tweets and infographics.

The news marks a fantastic milestone for #weareinternational which was always intended as a collaborative UK-wide project to support talented international students as they apply to study in the UK.

Did you know?

#weareinternational is already supported by more than 100 institutions in the UK. It was launched in 2013 as a joint campaign with our Students’ Union to highlight the crucial value of international students to the UK and began following the UK Border Agency’s decision to revoke the right of London Met University to sponsor visas for international students.

Since then we’ve been proactive in making the case for the value of international students to UK universities and to the country, leading a national debate on the subject, working with partners across the sector, in business and regional and national government.

For example, our latest film gives an unprecedented insight into the Visa application process in Beijing in order to remove barriers and dispel common myths.
