Mrs Linda Gray
Before retirement, Linda worked as an indispensable advocate for student support in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering for almost 40 years.
Alongside outstanding teaching in the areas of software development and software engineering, Linda acted as student support lead for her department. In this role, Linda pioneered a successful personal tutoring programme for all undergraduate and postgraduate students, which has helped to ensure that students can easily access the support they need.
The exceptional impact of her work on student experience has been recognised by a number of awards from the Students’ Union, including the Faculty of Engineering Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the award for Staff Student Committee Coordinator of the year.
Linda is widely recognised as a pioneer for women in a heavily male-dominated field, and her contribution to the department has helped students to follow her lead.
Linda’s colleagues said: “Linda is an exemplary role model to her colleagues and worked to ensure that all students in the department had robust support and a positive student experience. The impact of her work is reflected in the glowing praise she received from students and graduates who regularly commented on the difference Linda made to their lives.”
