#BeBoldForChange – champion other women
Anna Nibbs, University of Sheffield Enterprise
"Last year, I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder aged 36. My daughter is also autistic. Autism is often perceived as a male condition; many girls and women go undiagnosed, which impacts hugely on their lifestyle health and wellbeing.
"I’m passionate about dispelling myths, increasing autism understanding and acceptance, and supporting autistic girls and women, so I started a blog (mamapineappleblog.wordpress.com), detailing my experiences. It also addresses issues concerning visibility of autistic people from underprivileged or marginalised groups and provides advice.
"I find writing cathartic, but I’ve also had many messages from readers expressing how helpful they find my website, or how much their perceptions have changed. Seeing this impact is very rewarding.
"I’m now expanding the site to include signposting to other information and resources, and using it to amplify the voices of other autistic bloggers, particularly women and others who are underrepresented."
