Sam Parkin

Support Technician, Department of Animal and Plant Sciences

"My job is very varied and ranges from preparing practicals for teaching classes to running the glass-wash and autoclave rooms.

"The variety is what makes my job so interesting. For example, one week I could be stocktaking and ordering and another week preparing insects for a practical. Every task that I perform has a direct impact on people at our University because each job is essential. You can’t have classes without equipment being laid out first, students can’t go on field trips without all the equipment being gathered and packed and people can’t conduct research without equipment being clean and sterilized.

"To sum it up, being a technician in our University is such a varied job where each and every task you do is extremely important in making sure our University is able to function so well."
