National Care Leavers' Week at the University of Sheffield

University of SheffieldThis year, National Care Leavers’ Week is taking place from Friday 23rd October to Friday 30th October. Throughout the week the University of Sheffield will be highlighting and promoting the support that the University provides for local young people from care backgrounds and for care experienced students studying within the University of Sheffield.

National Care Leavers’ Week is a great opportunity to highlight the needs of Care Leavers, and encourage the agencies responsible for looking after this group to work in a coordinated and effective way. The week is also about raising public awareness of this group who face a particular set of challenges as they enter adult life.

Each day the University will be tweeting links from its official account to specific webpages to give details of the support that we offer, as well as providing information and guidance for staff and students.

You can follow our tweets and take the opportunity to find out a little bit more about this group of students and young people and find out ways in which you might also be able to support or get involved in the great work that is taking place in the University.

Please feel free to tweet us with your thoughts and comments via @LACCHAMPSHEF and you can keep updated with more National Care Leaver activity throughout the country via the following hashtags - #NCLW #careleaver.

To celebrate and raise awareness of support for Care Leavers, the University of Sheffield is also working collaboratively with Sheffield Hallam University and the Care Leavers Association to deliver a range of talks the week commencing 25th October. Both Universities will celebrate and raise awareness of the experiences of care leavers in higher education. The talks hosted at Sheffield Hallam University will aim to increase awareness of the outreach work that both The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University undertakes to help young looked after children realise their ambitions and potential.
